描述:

Reichardt's dye is a highly solvatochromic betaine dye used to determine solvent polarity. Solvatochromism of the dye results from a large reduction of the dipole moment and hydrogen bonding, as well as from the regulation of the mesomeric effect. In the presence of L-glutamic acid-derived peptide lipid with a benzyloxycarbonylated Gly headgroup, Reichardt's Dye in chlorobenzene was favored towards the more polar microenvironment of the peptide lipid in contrast to chlorobenzene , and a shift of color was observed. In a study of hydrophobic compounds, the dye was placed within polydendrimers to study the inner environment of the dendritic macro-molecular capsules.
