Norfloxacin nicotinate is a derivative of norfloxacin with improved solubility in water, and it acts as an antibacterial agent. This compound is reported to interfere with an ATP-induced structural transition of DNA complexed with DNA gyrase, and therefore inhibits the replication of bacterial DNA. Norfloxacin nicotinate has been shown to be effective against gram-negative bacteria, and effective, to a lesser degree, against gram-positive bacteria.
